Assam plans to develop Plastic Park
Mumbai: Assam government plans to develop a ‘Plastic Park’ on 500 acres with the state-of-the-art infrastructure for the plastic industry.

The State has also initiated a ‘Manpower Planning Project’ to provide qualified, technical man power for the industry, this will also generate employment in the State,” said Mr Tarun Gogoi, Chief Minister of Assam, in an interactive session on “Emerging Opportunities in Plastics in Assam” at the PlastIndia 2009 held recently.

As an initiative to welcome the plastic industry to Assam, the Federation of Industry and Commerce of North Eastern Region and Plastindia Foundation, in support with the Department of Chemicals and Petrochemicals and Fertilisers, and the Department of Industry and Commerce Ministry of Industry and Commerce, Government of Assam will organise ‘North East International Plasto Fair 2009’ between June 5 and 9, 2009.

The main objective of the event will be to promote the development and growth of the plastics industry in Assam and project Assam as a potential investment hub for plastics.

The Government also expects the upcoming Brahmaputra Crackers and Polymers project will lead to an estimated 500 downstream plastic processing units and is expected to generate direct and indirect employment to around one lakh people.
