|Samsung C&T has indicated that its contract to deliver the combined cycle power plant needed for the Phase II expansion of the Emirates Aluminium (EMAL) smelter in Abu Dhabi's Khalifa Industrial Zone will overrun.|
A stockmarket filing stated that its contract period, which began in September 2011 and was due to complete last Sunday (1 June) was being amended.
"Samsung C&T is under progress of commissioning in accordance with EMAL schedule and negotiation with EMAL regarding extension of (the) construction period", it said.
It added that a "further announcement will be made with respect to this issue when it is confirmed".
Its contract to deliver the power plant is worth over $587mn and is part of a wider $4.5bn expansion of the smelter, which is expected to increase the workforce at the facility by 50% to 3,000.
It will also include the world's longest potline ever built at 1.7km and boost production capacity to 1.3mn tonnes.
