|The Precast Concrete Instutute is to establish a chapter in the UAE - its first in the Gulf - to promote best practice and offer certification for fabrication firms.|
The institute, which was founded in 1954, is a US-based technical institute responsible for setting standards for the precast and prestressed concrete industry.
Its president, James Toscas, told Construction Week that PCI already has several members in the UAE and had been fostering links with an informal group of firms led by Dubai-based value engineering consultancy e.construct.
This had led to it holding its first International Symposium in Dubai last December, which was attended by more than 400 people. A second event is planned for 19-22 January 2015.
"The UAE precast concrete group has endorsed establishment of a new UAE-based organisation that will become a PCI Chapter," said Toscas. "We expect that the PCI UAE Chapter will be functional before the end of the year, and will be announced at the Symposium.
