|Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) is planning to pump USD 360 million to support two projects in Egypt in 2015, its Cairo office chief representative Hideki Matsunaga said.|
According to Amwal Al Ghad, Matsunaja revealed that JICA's planned financing includes the building of a passenger terminal and new lanes for the Borg Al-Arab Airport in Alexandria. The contract is valued at USD 180 million.
The proposed Borg Al-Arab is being planned as the first environmentally-friendly airport in Egypt. The new terminal will have several features that will allow it to use solar energy as a primary energy source.
The second project that JICA will fund involves upgrading of an electricity distribution network in Greater Cairo.
The reports stated that both projects were ratified during the Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe's recent short visit to Egypt. It added that plans to support projects such as the new Grand Egyptian museum, Cairo Metro and upgrade of power plants were also addressed.
