Telangana readies plan for new Secretariat complex.
The Telangana government has come out with a master plan for development of the new Secretariat complex on the Bison Polo ground which is currently a Defence property.

The proposed move to develop the Secretariat complex in the defence land received a shot in the arm with the outgoing defence minister Arun Jaitley last week assuring the State that the Centre would consider allotting the Bison Polo Ground along with some defence lands for development of the two proposed skyways.

While the Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao is upbeat on the development and the office of the State Roads and Buildings Minister Tummala Nageshwara Rao, releasing the sketch of the proposed building, the opposition Congress is keen to stall the plan. According to the Roads and Buildings Ministry, the Secretariat Complex will entail an investment of over ₹300 crore and be a three storeyed building as it comes in the flight funnel of the Old Begumpet airport where there is restriction on the construction height.

The State would get the 38 acre site from defence authorities and in turn part with about 600 acres to the Centre to be handed over to defence authorities.

After assuming office as Chief Minister in June 2014, K Chandrasekhar Rao functioned from the current Secretariat building for few months. Later, he decided to function from the Camp Office.

After a new residential-cum-office complex was constructed, Rao has been operating from this complex where most of the governance is being conducted.

According to sources, the sketch released was indicative and may be modified.

The whole process of handing over of the defence land may take about 3-4 months.

The Congress has been questioning the move as the existing Secretariat has enough space to develop it into a new complex as the Andhra Pradesh government has moved out to Amaravati. It alleges that the Chief Minister is wasting public money to satisfy his belief in Vaastu.
