MCH work to be over only by 2020.
Nearly four years after laying its foundation stone, the work on the Kasaragod Government Medical College Hospital (MCH) at nearby Ukkinadkka, 30 km from the district headquarters, has picked up momentum.

The district will have to wait for two more years for the medical college work to complete.

The work on the ₹25.86-crore academic blocks of the hospital project, spread over 65 acres, is going on with added momentum and KITCO, which is supervising the construction project, is hopeful of completing the academic block work by the end of the year with the State injecting another ₹5 crore from the Kasaragod Development Package outlay, officials at the building site told The Hindu.

Having received the administrative sanction for the hospital project worth ₹80 crore taken up with assistance from the NABARD, the project managers are expecting technical sanction from the departments concerned to come in a month, a senior official said.

The delay in work on the hospital complex raises concern for the families of endosulfan victims in the district.

The hospital is coming up in relatively remote locality, which is barely 8 km from the Karnataka border point of Adukasthala.

The dilapidated condition of the Perla-Badiadukka-Ukkinadkka-Adukkasthala road could even slow down the hospital project.

The work was formally launched by former Chief Minister Oommen Chandy on November 30, 2013, assuring people that the MCH would become fully functional by 2016.
