Land acquisition for airport to be completed.
The State Budget presented by Finance Minister T.M. Thomas Isaac on Friday proposes the completion of the land acquisition process for the expansion of the Thiruvananthapuram International Airport. The work on light metro will also be started this year, subject to approval from the Centre this fiscal.

A sum of ₹200 crore has been allocated for the construction of the Mannanthala-Powdikonam model road. Funds of ₹25 crore have been allocated for the re-construction of the Amayizhanjan canal from Kannammoola to Akkulam.

A waste water treatment plant will be installed at the Thiruvananthapuram Medical College at a cost of ₹25 crore. A sewage system will be put in place in the Kazhakuttam constituency at a cost of ₹200 crore. Keltron gets an allocation of ₹40 crore, while Kerala Automobiles gets an allocation of ₹10 crore.

Coastal hospitals

The taluk hospital in Chirayinkeezh has been included on the list of coastal hospitals under the Hospital Renovation Scheme, which is implemented with the assistance of the KIIFB.

Cardiology departments with facilities for cath labs and operations will be started in all District General hospitals. Emergency Medicine departments will also be started in all district hospitals and trauma care centres at taluk hospitals.

Autism Park

An Autism Park is a scheme formulated on an experimental basis for teaching the differently abled, including severely differently abled, in a separate classroom in regular schools by selecting a school in each district.

The Kerala Highway Research Institute at Kazhakuttam will play a lead role in improvement of design of the Public Works Department. The amount required for the Vizhinjam International Port will be sourced from the funds earmarked for mega infrastructure projects.

Allocation for varsity

The University of Kerala gets an allocation of ₹27 crore, while the Abdul Kalam Technical University gets ₹31 crore.

An amount of ₹121 crore has been earmarked for Kerala State Council for Science, Technology and Environment. Out of this, ₹64 crore is for research institutions under the Council. An amount of ₹79 crore has been earmarked for the Regional Cancer Centre (RCC).

The RCC will get Central assistance also by virtue of its status as ‘State Cancer Centre’.

An amount of ₹1 crore has been allocated for an international seminar that is to be conducted as the closing event of the 150th anniversary of ‘Das Capital’, jointly organised by the Gulati Institute of Finance and Taxation and Social Scientist magazine. Of this amount, ₹50 lakh will be used for the conduct of ‘Festival of Ideas’.

International seminar

An amount of ₹50 lakh has been earmarked for the international seminar at Thiruvananthapuram on Alternative Construction Methods in connection with the centenary celebrations of Laurie Baker, for mobile exhibitions and for development seminars at engineering colleges and district centres.

An amount of ₹2.20 crore is earmarked for the Institute of Language, ₹3.36 crore for Institute of Children’s Literature and Institute of Encyclopaedic Publications.

An amount of ₹1.15 crore is earmarked for the Library Council and ₹3.6 crore for State Central Library.

An amount of ₹22 crore is provided for IMG. ₹3 crore is additionally allocated to Centre for Management Development for the construction of a new hostel.
