|Shakti Sthala, a mega solar park, at Pavagada with capacity of 2,000 MW will be launched on Thursday.|
The park, spread across 13,000 acres and located in Pavagada taluk which is prone to severe droughts and farmer migration for decades, has been built at a cost of Rs. 16,500 crore.
State Minister for Energy DK Shivakumar said, “We have named it ‘Shakti Sthala’ as it is the country’s biggest solar power installation spread across five villages. The project is to help 2,300 farmers who can now earn up to Rs. 21,000 per acre of land.”
“The tariff has been fixed at Rs. 3.30 per unit and farmers have been given the scope to grow by 5 per cent every two years,” he added.
The project took two years to complete and it has been done without land acquisition.
