|Work on the 80-km-long section of Kundli-Manesar-Palwal (KMP) Expressway will be completed by the end of April this year, said Haryana Public Works (Building and Roads) Minister Rao Narbir Singh on Sunday.|
Addressing a gathering at Wazirabad village on the occasion of naming of a road, Mr. Singh announced that work on the Kundli-Manesar section is in the final phase and the stretch will be opened to traffic by the end of next month.
Mr. Singh said 10 industrial clusters will be developed along the 135-km-long road, adding that the road will prove to be the lifeline of the Millennium City. The Haryana government plans to develop 1-km stretch on both sides of KMP Expressway and on the stretch of Kundli-Ghaziabad-Palwal Expressway falling in Haryana for industrial development.
‘Reduction in pollution’
Mr. Singh said the number of diesel vehicles entering the city will reduce after the road is completed, thus reducing pollution levels.
Blaming the indifferent attitude of the previous government for delay in completion of the road, Mr. Singh said it was earlier slated to be completed before the Commonwealth Games in 2010. He added that the present government resumed the work and increased it from four lanes to six lanes.
Work on KMP Expressway project was originally allotted to concessionaire M/s KMP Expressway Limited on January 31, 2006. The completion date was fixed as July 29, 2009, with a toll collection period of 20 years and nine months. But the concessionaire failed to complete the work even till December 2014.
In its order dated January 30, 2015, the Supreme Court had directed Haryana to award the contract to new a concessionaire. The concession agreement of M/s KMP Expressway Limited was terminated on March 19, 2015.
Mr. Singh also said that tender for the proposed Gurugram-Sohna elevated road has been floated. Though time of 25 months was granted for it’s completion as per work contract, it will be completed in 15 months, he said.
