Al Zour South desalination plant in Kuwait inaugurated.

The new Al Zour South desalination plant with a daily capacity of 136,000 cubic meters of water was officially inaugurated recently. Operations at the plant had commenced in July 2014.

Located 100 kilometers south of the Kuwaiti capital, The reverse osmosis plant reinforces the total daily capacity of water treatment at Az Zour site by 25 percent, up to 659,700 cubic meters.

In 2011, environment company Veolia in partnership with Al Ghanim International had been selected to build the Az Zour South desalination plant through an international tender organized by the Ministry of Electricity and Water.

The plant will be operated and maintained by Veolia for duration of 5 years up to 2019.

The inauguration was held in the presence of HE Abdulaziz Abdullatif Al-Ibrahim, Minister of Public Works and Minister of Electricity and Water in Kuwait, Laurent Fabius, French Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Development; Antoine Frerot, Chairman of Veolia; and Christian Nakhle, French Ambassador to Kuwait.
