Baldota Group to double wind capacity

New Delhi: Wind energy producer, Baldota Group, on Thursday announced plans to invest around Rs 1,100 crore to double its wind energy capacity to 400 MW by the year 2010.

“This augmentation in capacity is in tune with India’s rapid march towards energy independence,” said Mr Narendra Kumar Baldota, Chairman and Managing Director, MSPL Ltd and the Baldota Group Companies here.

Lowering pollution


“In addition to generating energy from renewable sources, our endeavour also effectively brings down pollution levels caused by the use of fossil fuels.”

The Group currently has an installed capacity of 191.6 MW. The Group’s wind energy farms are located in Karnataka, where it has an installed capacity of 140.1 MW, Gujarat with 30 MW and Maharashtra with 21.5 MW.

MSPL Ltd, a flagship company of the Baldota Group, ventured into wind energy with the installation of a 1.5-MW project near Satara in Maharastra in 2001.

Need for energy


“Our country needs substantial increase in renewable energy like wind and solar, if we are to deal with generating electricity on the one hand and protecting the environment on the other.

“In the Budget, the Government should come forward with incentives and support to the investors in these two sectors which will help in increased investment in renewable energy sector to switch away from fossil fuels,” said Mr Baldota.
