Hyatt Hotels Reports Double-Digit Growth in India, Targets New Markets for Expansion.
Hyatt Hotels is experiencing double-digit growth in India, driven by strong domestic demand and a surge in the meetings, conferences, and events segment. The hotel brand, which made its debut in India 40 years ago with the opening of Hyatt Regency in Delhi, has seen slower growth compared to Indian and global competitors in terms of properties, rooms, and market presence.
However, the recent increase in demand and correction in room rates have put the hotel chain into a growth mode. Hyatt plans to expand its footprint by refurbishing existing properties and entering new markets, with eight new hotels slated to open this year and additional properties planned for Bengaluru and Assam next year.
"Domestic consumers are driving demand, while international demand has yet to fully recover to pre-COVID levels. Our wedding business has seen a 25% increase in CY 2023, and our revenue per available room (RevPAR) grew by over 33% compared to 2022. We have achieved double-digit growth in 2024," stated Sunjae Sharma, Hyatt Hotels’ Managing Director for India and South West Asia.
Recently, Hyatt unveiled the Grand Showroom, a 40,000 square-foot venue for events and celebrations at Grand Hyatt Mumbai. "The Grand Showroom represents the culmination of our efforts to create a premier destination for bespoke celebrations," said Arun Kumar Saraf, Chairman of Juniper Hotels, which owns the Grand Hyatt Mumbai. The venue is designed to provide a blend of grandeur, theatrical design, and experiential luxury for both intimate and large-scale events.
Grand Hyatt Mumbai is the largest property among Hyatt’s 52 hotels in India and also the largest within Juniper’s portfolio of seven Hyatt-affiliated hotels. Additionally, the Mumbai property is undergoing a renovation that includes refurbishing guest rooms and upgrading its restaurants.
