Metro Test Run from Motijheel to Central Station Successfully Completed.

Kanpur Metro successfully completed its first test run from Motijheel to Kanpur Central Station on Tuesday, marking a significant milestone in the city's metro project. The test run, conducted on both the up-line and down-line tracks, was attended by senior metro officials.

This achievement is a key step in the preparations for extending passenger services from IIT to Kanpur Central, which is slated to begin in January 2025. Regular trial runs on this route will soon start, with rapid progress being made on the stations from Motijheel to Kanpur Central.

While the Kanpur Metro currently operates on an elevated viaduct, the new extension will mark the first time passengers are ferried to underground stations. In previous months, test runs were conducted on the up-line to the Nayaganj underground station in July, and on the down-line in October.

Following the installation of tracks, third rail systems, signals, and other essential infrastructure, the metro train was taken to Kanpur Central for a comprehensive test run. During this test, various systems, including the tracks and power supply, were thoroughly tested. The third rail, running parallel to the metro track, was also charged for the first time up to Kanpur Central.

Currently, Kanpur Metro operates on the Priority Corridor from IIT to Motijheel, which consists of nine elevated stations. With the extension to Kanpur Central in January 2025, five additional underground stations—Chunniganj, Naveen Market, Bada Chauraha, Nayaganj, and Kanpur Central—will be integrated into the metro network.
