Railway Board Sanctions Rs. 244.77 Crore for Wagon Workshop Establishment in Odisha
In response to the persistent demands from local residents and public representatives, the Railway Board has greenlit a budget of Rs. 244.77 crore for the establishment of a wagon periodic overhauling (PoH) facility in Kantabanji, located in Odisha's Balangir district. The announcement, conveyed in a statement by the East Coast Railway (ECoR) on Wednesday, underscores the recognition of the pressing need for such a workshop in the region.
Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw had previously assured the local populace that their demand for the workshop would be addressed, further amplifying the significance of this decision.
The detailed project report for the wagon PoH was submitted in September 2023, paving the way for the initiation of the project. The workshop will be constructed on available vacant land owned by the railways at Kantabanji.
ECoR emphasized that the establishment of this workshop will not only bolster freight traffic in the region but also enhance efficiency and reliability through improved wagon maintenance.
