Second pipeline to be laid under Telugu Ganga project.

Municipal Administration Minister P. Narayana has announced that the second Telugu Ganga pipeline to Tirupati will be laid to meet the growing drinking water needs of Tirupati and Tirumala.

At a meeting with municipal officials here recently, he said that as part of the three-year project, a new pipeline would be laid and a second summer storage tank would be built. To tackle the drinking water woes on a war footing, Mr. Narayana unveiled a plan involving an outlay of Rs. 25 to Rs. 30 crore for Tirupati, under which two 450 HP motors would be installed at Ramapuram. 'At present, Tirupati gets 52 MLD of water against its requirement of 65 MLD. The additional motors will help compensate the deficit,' he said.

Similarly, he said that water was being supplied through tankers in Madanapalle and Chittoor once in three and two days respectively. The Minister also announced the replacement of 1.5 lakh regular streetlights with LED bulbs across the State, while Tirupati alone would get 10,000.
