Six Firms Bid for First Civil Contract of Thane Metro Project.

The Thane Metro Rail Project has moved a step closer to construction as six firms have submitted bids for the first civil contract, Package C-01. The bids were opened on September 10, revealing a competitive field for the project's initial phase.

The contract was tendered by MahaMetro (Maharashtra Metro Rail Corporation Ltd.) in May 2025 with an estimated value of ₹1,424 crore and a 30-month deadline. The bidders include prominent construction firms such as Afcons Infrastructure Ltd., G R Infraprojects Ltd. (GRIL), J Kumar Infraprojects Ltd. (JKIL), Kalpataru Projects International Ltd. (KPIL), Larsen and Toubro Ltd. (L&T), and Rail Vikas Nigam Ltd. (RVNL).

The scope of work for this package involves the design and construction of an elevated metro viaduct stretching 20.527 kilometers. This includes the depot approach viaduct and three special spans for the Thane Integral Ring Metro Project.

The Thane Metro Phase 1 is a 29-kilometer mass rapid transit system with a single circular line and 22 stations, designed to run along the western periphery of Thane city.

The bids are now undergoing technical evaluation. After this process is complete, the financial bids of the qualified firms will be opened to determine the lowest bidder and award the contract.
