"Adani Group launches 570 MW Wangchhu hydropower project."

The Adani Group has begun work on the 570 MW Wangchhu Hydroelectricity Project in Bhutan, marking a key milestone in bilateral energy cooperation between India and Bhutan. The project was first announced in early September 2025.

The foundation stone for the hydropower project was laid in the presence of Bhutan’s Prime Minister Tshering Tobgay and Adani Group Chairman Gautam Adani. Under the project structure, Bhutan’s Druk Green Power Corporation (DGPC) will hold a majority stake of 51 per cent, while Adani Group will own the remaining 49 per cent.

The Wangchhu project is part of a broader collaboration between the two partners. In May 2025, Adani Group and DGPC signed separate landmark Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) to jointly develop hydropower projects with a combined capacity of 5,000 MW in Bhutan.

The initiative underscores Bhutan’s focus on expanding its renewable energy capacity and strengthening regional energy partnerships.
