AP to complete land acquisition for Nadikudi–Srikalahasti line.

Andhra Pradesh has instructed the district collect of Guntur to commence work on land acquisition for the proposed new railway line between Nadikudi and Guntur.

The land for the first 30 km of the total 308-km line should be handed over to the Railways, Chief Secretary IYR Krishna Rao said in a review meeting held recently.

A new line between Nadikudi and Srikalahasti will be helpful to develop the backward areas of Guntur, Prakasam, Nellore and Chittoor districts and also facilitate exports in cement and granite industries in this region. The railway line is an alternate and shortest route for Tamil Nadu, Kerala and Karnataka from the State.

The tripling of railway line between Vijayawada and Gudur was approved by the Railway Board and concerned district officials will be in touch with Railway officials to co-ordinate for land acquisition for the tripling line, the official said.

The doubling of railway line between Guntur and Guntakal was also reviewed and it was observed that its completion will facilitate running of two trains on different tracks to reduce the journey period and people can easily move from Rayalaseema region to new capital city of Andhra Pradesh, according to a release.
