Mahindra Holidays signs MoU for Resort Projects

Kolkata: Mahindra Holidays & Resorts India ltd (MHRIL) will invest Rs 200 crore in the next two-three years in West Bengal towards developing resorts in Jaldapara, Gorumara, areas near Darjeeling, Mandarmani and Sunderban.

The company signed an Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the West Bengal Tourism Development Corporation (WBTDC) and Sunderban Infrastructure Development Corporation(SDIC) on Thursday in this regard.

Later, speaking at a press conference, Arun Nanda, chairman, Mahindra Holidays, said, “the construction work for the first project would begin in Sunderaban by December 2008. The land for the projects was yet to be acquired. Two sites have been identified in Sunderaban.”

The resorts, each with a room capacity of 100-20, would require about 10-20 acres of land, he said.

The state government would act as a facilitator for proving infrastructure support and identifying land for the resorts, said Manabendra Mukherjee, minister for tourism, West Bengal.An environment study to assess the impact of the projects would also be initiated, the minister said.
