TP Solar, the solar manufacturing arm of Tata Power, announced recently a significant milestone, having surpassed 4 gigawatts (GW) of solar module production at its state-of-the-art facility in Tamil Nadu. This achievement underscores the company's pivotal role in accelerating India's ambitious clean energy transition.
As of May 31, 2025, the Tamil Nadu plant has cumulatively produced an impressive 4,049 megawatts (MW) of solar modules and 1,441 MW of solar cells. Looking ahead, TP Solar has set an aggressive target for the fiscal year 2026 (FY26), aiming for 3.7 GW of solar cell output and 3.725 GW of module production. This strategic focus further solidifies the company's commitment to supporting the nation's renewable energy aspirations.
With its rated capacity of 4.3 GW expected to be fully realized in FY26, the Tamil Nadu plant is poised to be a cornerstone in India's drive towards achieving 500 GW of non-fossil fuel capacity by 2030.
The facility in Tamil Nadu is strategically designed to comply with domestic content requirement (DCR) norms, ensuring that a significant portion of its production contributes directly to indigenous manufacturing capabilities. It is equipped with cutting-edge automated and AI-driven technologies, enabling the manufacture of next-generation Mono PERC (passivated emitter and rear cell) and advanced TopCon (Tunnel Oxide Passivated Contact) modules.
In addition to the Tamil Nadu operations, Tata Power Renewable Energy also operates a 682 MW solar module and a 530 MW solar cell plant in Bengaluru. This Bengaluru facility operates at full capacity, providing crucial support for DCR-compliant cell and module production, further strengthening Tata Power's comprehensive solar manufacturing ecosystem.
This latest achievement by TP Solar highlights Tata Power's continued leadership in the renewable energy sector and its unwavering commitment to powering India's sustainable future.
