In a strategic move, Wyndham Hotels & Resorts, a prominent US-based hotel franchisor, has revealed plans to introduce its European brand, Vienna House, to the Indian market by mid-next year. The ambitious initiative aims to elevate the company's total hotel count from the current 60 to an impressive 100 by the year 2025.
Dimitris Manikis, the President for Europe, the Middle East, Eurasia, and Africa (EMEA) at Wyndham Hotels & Resorts, expressed confidence in replicating the company's global success in the dynamic hospitality landscape of India. In an interview with businessline, Manikis highlighted the anticipation of substantial growth in the Indian hospitality sector over the next five years, fueled by robust infrastructure development, particularly in airports, roads, and ports.
Currently, Wyndham operates over 60 hotels in India, boasting more than 5,333 rooms. Additionally, the company has an ambitious pipeline, with 35 hotels and over 3,116 rooms under development in 36 cities across the country. Globally, Wyndham's extensive portfolio comprises around 9,100 hotels in 95 countries spanning six continents, operating under 24 distinct brands. In India alone, the company offers a diverse range of eight brands.
Discussing the introduction of Vienna House to the Indian market, Manikis emphasized the unique appeal of the brand and its potential resonance with Indian consumers. He anticipates that the distinctive style of Vienna House, along with the grandeur of the upcoming Wyndham Grand (scheduled to open in 2025), will not only attract domestic customers but also entice inbound tourists from Europe.
Highlighting the significance of the Vienna House brand, Manikis reflected on its acquisition from Berlin-based HR Group the previous year. The acquisition not only added 28 hotels in Germany but also solidified Wyndham's presence in one of its largest European markets, boasting 120 franchised hotels and over 19,000 rooms. The move also facilitated expansion into surrounding countries, contributing to the company's continued growth and diversification in the global hospitality sector.
