₹10,440 Crore Allocated for Northeast Frontier Railway, Says Minister.
Union Minister of State for Railways and Jal Shakti, V. Somanna, announced a record allocation of ₹10,440 crore for the Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) in the Union Budget 2025-26.
During his visit to Guwahati Railway Station, the minister emphasized the rapid development of railway infrastructure in the northeastern region. He highlighted that Assam, which had no railway electrification before 2014, will achieve 100% electrification by the end of 2025. Doubling of railway lines is also progressing at an accelerated pace to enhance capacity and efficiency.
Somanna reaffirmed the government's commitment to modernizing railway stations under the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme (ABSS). The Guwahati Railway Station is undergoing redevelopment at an estimated cost of ₹181.09 crore, with improved amenities such as waiting halls, QR code ticketing counters, and enhanced security measures.
The minister also inspected Dibrugarh Railway Station and the Bogibeel Rail-cum-Road Bridge over the Brahmaputra, underscoring the government's focus on boosting connectivity between Assam and Arunachal Pradesh.
NFR's Chief Public Relations Officer, Kapinjal Kishore Sharma, stated that these investments will enhance passenger experience and contribute to regional economic growth.
