14 new mega projects this year.

The government will launch 14 major projects under the annuity scheme this year and commission 100 bridges in the next 400 days.

This was announced by Governor P. Sathasivam in his address to the Assembly. The government would acquire and hand over land to the National Highways Authority of India for the four-laning of NH 66 with a Right of Way with a width of 45 metres. The Kozhikode City Road Improvement Project would begin this year.

Safety corridor

The Governor announced that all works under SPEEID Kerala would commence this year. The Thiruvananthapuram City Road Improvement Project would be completed this year. The proposed model safety corridor from the capital to Adoor would be executed this year

The Light Metro project would be implemented in Thiruvananthapuram and Kozhikode through Kerala Rapid Transit Corporation Ltd., a Special Purpose Vehicle.

Kannur airport

The Kannur airport would become functional by May 2016, he added.

Mr. Sathasivam said the government was giving shape to a law for the Unified Metropolitan Transport Authority for integrating all urban transport systems under a single network and single command. The Kodungalloor and Azhikkal ports would be developed. The government would implement the Vizhinjam International Deepwater Multipurpose Seaport in a Design, Build, Finance, Operate and Transfer (DBFOT) mode.
