Award for management practices in textile units

Coimbatore: The Coimbatore-based Precot Mills Ltd, in association with the Tamilnadu Centre of ABK-AOTS Dosokai, Japan, has for the first time instituted an award for textile units excelling in management practices.

The award in the form of rolling trophy has been instituted in the name of late N. Damotharan, founder of Precot Mills, and would be given to the winners for the Japanese quality management practices of the `5-S' techniques. Textile companies involved in spinning, weaving and garmenting are eligible to participate in the competition.

ABK-AOTS Dosokai, Tamilnadu Centre, an alumni association which conducts training programmes on Japanese management techniques, is holding the annual `5S' competition for small and medium enterprises cutting across all sectors of industry. Itholds this competition with the support of the Chennai-based Carborundum Universal Ltd and Chennai district small-scale industries association. The inaugural function is to be held in the city on January 7, when the winners will be given away the `AOTS-N Damotharan 5S trophy' for best `5S' practices.

To mark the launch of the annual competition for the textile industry, the centre is organising here a one-day seminar on `best 5S practices in textile industry' on the same day. The Japanese Consul in Chennai, Mr Yuji Okada, Mr D. Sarath Chandran, Chairman and Managing Director, Precot Mills, and Mr Ashwin Chandran, Director, will participate.
