Bangla shipping agents refuses to pay extra fee for new cranes use

Chittagong: Leaders of the Bangladesh Shipping Agents Association on Tuesday expressed concern over paying extra charges for the usage of new gantry cranes at the Chittagong Port.

They said the extra charges would lead to an additional expenditure of about Tk 30 crore and its consequences would be reflected in the domestic economy.

At a meeting at the Association’s headquarters, shipping agents decided they would refrain from using berthing services of feeder vessels involving the new gantry cranes and demanded withdrawal of the additional charges, said a press release.

The Association leaders also informed their decision to the Prime Minister’s Office and shipping ministry among other relevant organisation and departments in this regard.
