BEML wins order from Bangalore Metro

Bangalore: Defence PSU Bharat Earth Movers (BEML) has bagged an order valued at around Rs 1672.50 crore from the Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation.

“This is the single largest order from a single tender. BEML is also likely to get an additional order for 63 metro coaches for further expansion and extension of proposed metro lines in Bangalore City and its value is of about Rs 600 crore'', said Mr V R S Natarajan, Chairman, BEML.

The company is in possession of yet another prestigious order worth about Rs 1,365 crore for supply of metro rail coaches to Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) for its third phase of project.

The first set of three cars would be delivered to Bangalore Metro during October 2010 for trail runs. Turning to its R & D activities, Natarajan said BEML is building the low cost metro for Tier-II and Tier-III cities at an affordable cost with world class safety features.
