CDGK to build parking plaza
Karachi: The City Council, in the absence of opposition members, has adopted a resolution allowing the Transport and Communication Department of the City District Government Karachi (CDGK) to construct a parking plaza in Clifton.
The resolution was forwarded by City Council Transport Committee Chairman Nadeem Hashmi Wednesday. According to suggestions submitted by the Transport and Communication Department on March 12, two adjacent plots in Block 4 near Schon Circle are in possession of the city government. The plots, measuring 4,300 square yards and 7,500 square yards, will be merged for the construction of a multi-storey car-parking plaza.
“5 percent of the parking will be used for commercial purposes and the revenue generated will be utilized for the maintenance of the building,” said Hashmi.
He added that although the land will remain in the CDGK’s possession, the management will be completely responsible for the parking plaza. “The City Council has given its approval to the City Nazim Syed Mustafa Kamal but no firm has been awarded the construction contract yet,” he said.
