Clair Tech to set up CFL plants

Ahmedabad: Clair Technology (India) Ltd, a closely-held company and part of a group with interests in power, hospitality and electronics sectors, has announced a foray into energy-efficient lighting solutions, with the launch of compact fluorescent lamps (CFL) and luminaries, and the setting up of two more plants, including one in Gujarat, by the year end.

In the next few months, the company would also launch a range of products, including fans and switches, Mr Rajesh Jain, Chairman and Managing Director, told reporters here. In all, Clair plans to launch 30 products in segments ranging from general consumer to heavy industries.

In India, the estimated market of CFLs is about 70 crore lamps annually, including 40 per cent from the organised sector, while in Gujarat, it is seven lakh units, worth Rs 6 crore.

The company plans to launch its products in 10 States, starting with Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Maharashtra and Goa, in the next four months. Clair’s existing manufacturing facility at Solan (Himachal Pradesh) has a capacity to manufacture 50 lakh CFLs in phase one.

Two more manufacturing plants would be set up, including one in Gujarat by the year end with an investment of Rs 10 crore. The turnover of the company this fiscal is expected to be Rs 70 crore, which it projects to double in 2009-10 and to Rs 300 crore by 2010-11, Mr Jain added.
