CRWC to Set up Railside Warehouse at HNL.

The Central Railside Warehouse Company (CRWC), a subsidiary of the Central Warehousing Corporation, is planning to construct a Railside Warehouse, the first of its kind in the State, on the premises of Hindustan Newsprint Limited at Velloor in Kottayam district.

As part of the initiative, a three-member team visited Hindustan Newsprint recently. Railside warehouses are storage and transportation facilities set up near railway stations for hassle-free movement of cargo.

The new facility would allow the people of the State to transport goods to the other parts of the country at 30-40 per cent cheaper rates.

The project will be funded by the CRWC.

'We are exploring the possibilities of setting up a railside warehouse near the Hindustan Newsprint factory at Velloor. We recently started a parcel cargo express train service from Chalakkudy to cater to the needs of rail users in the Northern districts of the State. The new railside warehouse, to be built at Velloor, will be of huge benefit to the central and southern districts of Kerala. Spices and rubber products could be stored in the warehouse, and transported to the other parts of the country in a cost-effective manner,' CRWC managing director K U Thankachan told Express.
