Ford Finalizing Plans to Revive Chennai Plant.
Ford is in the final stages of reviving its Chennai manufacturing plant, with discussions ongoing between the company and the Tamil Nadu government. “Ford is finalizing their plans, and we are discussing with them. No cause of concern,” a source confirmed.
In September 2024, the US automaker announced its intention to resume manufacturing at its Chennai facility, two years after halting production in India following a three-decade-long presence in the country. The company submitted a Letter of Intent (LoI) to the Tamil Nadu government, affirming its plan to use the plant for export-oriented manufacturing. This development followed a meeting between Ford leadership and the Tamil Nadu Chief Minister during his visit last year.
Despite recent media reports suggesting that Ford had put its Chennai plant revival plans on hold, officials indicate that discussions are still progressing, and the project remains on track.
