Gujarat may lose huge money over Nano car project: Opposition
Ahmedabad: The Rs 2,200-crore Nano project in Gujarat, including Rs 700 crore worth of shifting cost from Singur to Sanand, could cost the State exchequer at least Rs 30,000 crore in the long run, the State Congress Party claimed here on Tuesday.
Addressing a press conference, citing the alleged ‘leak of a purported document in a section of the press here today, the Leader of the Opposition, Mr Siddharth Patel, and the State party spokesman, Mr Arjun Modhwadia, said the State Government has so far refrained from making public details of the last month’s ‘confidential trade agreement’ between Gujarat and Tata Motors Ltd and denied access to it even under the Right to Information Act. However, they said, the media reports suggest that the company would be advanced a soft loan totalling Rs 9,570 crore at a token interest rate of 0.1 per cent, whose deferred payment would begin after 20 years.
