Havells India Haridwar unit becomes operational.

Havells India Ltd. has begun production at its new unit at Haridwar in Uttarakhand. Set up at an estimated cost of approximately Rs. 50 crore, it was made operational a month ago.

The unit will manufacture table, pedestal and wall-hanging (TPW) and exhaust fans. It has an annual capacity of 1.5 million.

Currently, the Haridwar facility is used exclusively for fan manufacturing (under both the 'Havells' and 'Standard' brands). It has a total capacity of 7 million per annum.

Apart from the new unit, the two existing ones have a combined capacity of 5.5 million fans each year. They cater to the ceiling and decorative fans segment.

According to YK Gupta, Associate Director, Havells India, the facility will help bring in cost advantage as well as reduce dependence on imports from Chinese products in the segment.

'Some models of exhaust and TPW fans were being imported from China. But with rupee depreciation (to the Renminbi) and high costs, it makes more sense to utilise our own facilities in the country,' he told presspersons here.

Havells recently launched a new fan range under the 'Standard' brand.
