OGDCL told to start exploration for doubling gas production

Islamabad: Advisor to Prime Minister on Petroleum and Natural Resources, Dr Asim Hussain directed Oil and Gas Development Company (OGDCL) to start exploration activities to double oil and gas production in next 16 months.

In a meeting with the top officials of the company held here, he directed to start work on Kunar, Pasakhi, Tando Allahyar and Sinjhoro development projects on fast track basis and complete them within the stipulated time.

He also asked the officials to double the gas production with a competitive mechanism and also bring a significant increase in the oil production aimed at generating investment for the company and the exchequer. Dr Asim also directed to complete Qadirpur Expansion Project in order to enhance the capacity of 100 mmscfd gas by March-April for which eight new wells are in process of drilling at Qadirpur.

'The country is endowed with vast hydrocarbon potential and it is the need of the hour to utilise them for the benefit of the people and the country,' he added. He also asked the officials to improve local security system for consistency of ongoing projects and provide proper training to newly inducted security staff in those areas where projects are under way.

The advisor said that the company should go for internationalisation and also pay attention to offshore drilling in collaboration with the joint venture partners of good repute. Dr Asim also lauded for getting AAA/A-One Plus rating on the basis of company's stable and sound position as the largest exploration and production company in the country.

Earlier, the advisor was briefed on the working of the company including the oil stock situation in the country, working of refineries and the exploration of oil and gas and future plans. Petroleum Secretary Saleem Mahmood, Managing Director Zahid Hussain and senior officials of the company were also present.
