Special water project for village that houses VSI.

Manjari village, where the Vasantdada Sugar Institute (VSI) whose Board is headed by NCP chief Sharad Pawar is located, has been allotted a special water supply project by the state government through the Maharashtra Jeevan Pradhikaran, the state water supply department and Rs 10 crore will be put in by Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC). The state water supply department had on June 2 sanctioned the project urging contribution from the PMC, as the village, along with 33 others, is proposed to be brought under PMC, as announced by the urban development department on May 29.

'The planning for water supply project in Manjari village was started a few months ago but it recently got sanction from the state government. The state government assured 75 per cent funding,' said Bapu Karne, NCP leader and chairperson of the standing committee of PMC. The municipal commissioner tabled the proposal in the civic standing committee as the village will be soon within PMC limits. The civic body would gain from it, he said adding the PMC would save money and if such proposals for other villages come up they would be approved.
