Survey of R&B roads begins.

Survey of R&B Department roads in the district in a scientific manner commenced recently.

An Indian company, in partnership with an Australian firm, is conducting the survey with its vehicles equipped with modern gadgets, GPS, etc. under a World Bank-funded project.

High-end technology is being used to detect the condition of the R&B roads, their capacity, faults, and potholes.

The data collected would help in improving the road condition.

Collector N. Yuvaraj flagged off the Network Survey vehicle of the Indian Road Survey and Management Limited to commence survey of 2,200 km of road in the district.

The IRSM is taking technical assistance of Australian Road Research Board in this project.

Mr. Yuvaraj, who rode in the vehicle along with Superintending Engineer of R&B G. Kanth and representative of IRSM Nitin, was told that the vehicle could survey 100 km of road in a day and complete survey in the district in 20-30 days.

It would also identify the trees and structures on the side of a road and record the same as road inventory survey data.

Vehicles of two other types: one to prepare CD works inventory to identify culverts and other structures and another for recording traffic to prepare traffic inventory would also join the survey soon.

Data collected from all the vehicles would be quantified to make recommendations and suggestions to the AP Road Development Corporation on development of roads, expected condition, and the traffic on them in the next 5-10 years.

Executive Engineer K.V. Ramana Reddy and Deputy Engineers were present.
