TIFR plans second campus in Hyderabad
Hyderabad: Tata Institute of Fundamental Research (TIFR) is looking at opening its second campus in Hyderabad with a projected investment of over Rs 2,500 crore to be put in over a period of 12-15 years.
The second campus would be set up in two phases, phase I (2008 to 2014) and phase II (2014 to 2020). TIFR established in 1945, began its research in areas of cosmic rays and high energy physics, theoretical physics and mathematics and extended the scope to include fields like nuclear physics, nuclear and electron magnetism, computer science, geophysics, molecular biology, radio astronomy and science education.
A release from the Chief Minister’s Office said that TIFR was planning to commemorate the birth centenary of its founder, Dr Homi J. Bhabha, commencing from October 31 and was eager to lay the foundation stone for its Hyderabad Campus at the earliest.
