Two airports planned in Maharashtra

Mumbai: The Maharashtra Government has decided to build airport at Amravati and Gadchiroli District. The Maharashtra Airport Development Company has been appointed as the nodal agency for the projects.

The Maharashtra Chief Minister, Mr Ashok Chavan, said that the airport would be developed at Bellora in Amravati district over 300 hectares.

He said that the airport project would require Rs 289 crore of which Rs 64 crore would be provided as a grant by the State Government for the project.

The airport at Gadchiroli is being developed for deployment of troops for anti-naxal operations and evacuations of the injured. A helicopter base would also be developed and the Indian Air Force (IAF) will operate it, Mr Chavan said.
