Union Government Allocates ₹2281 Crore for Road Widening in Tamil Nadu
The Union Government has earmarked ₹2281 crore for the expansion and reinforcement of national highways across Tamil Nadu. According to Union Minister for Road Transport & Highways, Nitin Gadkari, a significant portion of ₹1376.10 crore has been sanctioned for widening the existing 2-lane paved shoulder from Tiruvallur to the Tamil Nadu/Andhra Pradesh border on National Highway-716.
This allocation is specifically designated for Package-1, covering a stretch of 43.95 km in Thiruvallur district. The initiative aims to convert the existing road into a 4-lane configuration with paved shoulders, thereby establishing a fully access-controlled corridor. This development is crucial for enhancing connectivity between the sacred cities of Tiruthani and Tirupathi, constituting a vital route for transportation and pilgrimage.
