WHO gives nod for Zydus cadila vaccine

Ahmedabad: The World Health Organisation (WHO) has approved Lyssavac N — the Purified Duck Embryo Rabies Vaccine (PDEV) manufactured by Cadila Healthcare (Zydus Cadila), for purchase by various United Nations’ agencies.

With this, Zydus Cadila becomes the first pharmaceutical company in India and the second in the world to receive WHO accreditation (prequalification) for the rabies vaccine, the company said in a statement here.

One of the largest manufacturers of rabies vaccine in India, Zydus Cadila produces three million doses of the vaccine a year. The dedicated vaccine facility set up in technical collaboration with Berna Biotech of Switzerland is located at the group’s manufacturing plant at Moraiya, Ahmedabad.
