2nd 6-coach Namma Metro train to run from tomorrow.
There is a good news for Namma Metro passengers. The Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) is all set to operate one more six-coach train from Thursday.
The BMRCL had set September as the deadline for introducing the second six-coach train. The first one began running in July after getting clearance from the Railway Board.
It will run on the Purple Line (Mysuru Road to Baiyappanahalli) as the ridership on that route is more than in the Green Line (Nagasandra to Yelachenahalli).
An official of the BMRCL said, “The date has been tentatively fixed for Thursday for commercial operations of second six-coach train. We have completed the trial run after integrating three-coach train to six- coach train. Like the previous one, the six-coach trains will be operated during the peak hour on the Purple Line. If required, we will run the train even at other times, as loop train, to clear the rush at metro stations.”
The official said the BMRCL has received one more set of train recently and it is being assembled.
The six-coach trains, in which the first coach is reserved for women, will be a major relief for passengers as the coaches get very crowded at peak hours.
The ridership has increased gradually ever since commercial operations began on the entire phase I. On August 20, the ridership crossed 4.28 lakh. Officials say the number of passengers will increase as more number six-coach trains get operational.
The BMRCL had announced that by June 2019 all the existing three- coach trains will be integrated to six-coach ones.
