ABB bags orders worth Rs 512 crore from JSW group

Mumbai: Engineering major ABB Ltd on Thursday said that it has secured orders worth Rs 512 crore from JSW group to provide turnkey power and automation solutions for its steel and power plant projects. The order would include Electrical Balance of Plant (EBoP) solutions for JSW group's 8x135 MW power generation facility in Rajasthan and a 300 MW power plant being set up in Bellary, Karnataka, ABB said in a release to the BSE. The projects are likely to be commissioned by 2009, the company said.

'ABB's power and automation technologies will go a long way in enabling efficiency and productivity at JSW's world-class facilities'', ABB India Country Manager Biplab Majumdar was quoted in the filing to BSE.

ABB has leading edge technologies and a high-level of domain competence and experience to serve power generation needs, the EBoP and associated solutions would help to ensure reliable power supply to the plant, the company added.

JSW, which is a part of the O P Jindal Group with interests in mining, carbon steel, power and oxygen, is in the process of enhancing its steel capacity from 3.8 to 10 mpa (million tonnes per annum) by 2010. Shares in the company were last trading 6.77 per cent up at Rs 1,588 on the BSE.
