Accel Raises $650 Million Early-Stage Fund for Startups in India and Southeast Asia.

Accel, a global venture capital firm, has successfully raised a $650 million early-stage fund aimed at backing founders in India and Southeast Asia. This marks Accel's eighth fund in the region, underscoring its continued commitment to partnering with early-stage founders and helping build disruptive, category-defining businesses.

The firm plans to focus on sectors such as artificial intelligence (AI), consumer brands, fintech, and manufacturing, with a special emphasis on sub-categories within each sector. Accel aims to support founders driving innovation while addressing real-world challenges across India and Southeast Asia.

“India is at an inflection point. Over the next decade, we are poised to add more to our GDP than we have in our entire economic history,” said Prayank Swaroop, Partner at Accel. “The opportunity for Indian founders to build and scale businesses with large-scale impact is immense, with digital adoption accelerating across urban and rural areas.”

Accel has already made significant investments in companies like Amagi, Acko, BlackBuck, BlueStone, BrowserStack, Cult.fit, Flipkart, Freshworks, Swiggy, Urban Company, and Zetwerk. Additionally, the firm has been the first institutional investor in 80% of its portfolio companies.

Shekhar Kirani, Partner at Accel, highlighted that India’s startup ecosystem is increasingly becoming a driving force behind the nation’s economic growth. “India’s VC-backed companies have surpassed $50 billion in public market capitalization. As India’s GDP and public market cap grow, we expect large outcomes from disruptive businesses led by bold, visionary founders,” he said.

Accel has also launched initiatives like SeedToScale, an open-source platform providing company-building knowledge from successful founders and industry leaders. Its early-stage scaling program, Accel Atoms, now in its fourth iteration, has supported 36 startups that collectively raised over $200 million.

In the past two years, Accel has invested in over 27 AI startups in India or founded by Indian-origin entrepreneurs, further reinforcing its commitment to fueling innovation in the region.
