The Adani Group is preparing a major expansion of its airport business, with plans to invest $15 billion over the next five years to increase annual passenger-handling capacity to 200 million, according to people familiar with the matter. The investment push comes as the conglomerate readies a public listing of its airport arm amid strong growth in India’s aviation sector.

The expansion blueprint includes new terminals, taxiways and a runway at the Navi Mumbai International Airport, scheduled to open on December 25, the people said, requesting anonymity as the plans are not yet public. Capacity upgrades are also planned at the group’s airports in Ahmedabad, Jaipur, Thiruvananthapuram, Lucknow and Guwahati.

Around 70% of the required funding will be raised through debt over the five-year period, with the remaining amount infused as equity, the people said.
