Amul starts operations in Punjab.

Gujarat Cooperative Milk Marketing Federation (GCMMF), producer of Amul, announced the launch of its operations in Punjab. It is planning to procure 200,000 litres of milk a day from the state.

The cooperative has decided to set up a milk procurement network in Batala, first in Punjab.

R S Sodhi, managing director, GCMMF said, 'It is a proud moment for Amul to associate with the milk producers of Punjab. This relationship will herald a new revolution in the state and bring benefits to both.'

Sodhi further said, 'The average daily milk production in Punjab is 26.5 million litres a day. The cooperative network of Verka is procuring about 1.1-1.2 million litres milk a day, which is less than 5 per cent of the total milk produced daily in the state. This initiative will help strenghthen the cooperative dairy movement in the state and benefit more farmers. The farmers will also get better prices of milk.'
