Brahmapuram project awaits single window clearance.

Proponents of the waste-to-energy plant at Brahmapuram hope to obtain a single-window clearance for the upcoming project.

The project will require at least 20 clearances from various agencies including the Kerala State Pollution Control Board. If the project gets all statutory clearances through the single window mechanism, it can save much time. The State government is also in favour of considering the project for clearance through the facility, said company officials.

GJ Eco Power, which won the bid for setting up the plant, has prepared a Detailed Project Report (DPR) for the plant and is awaiting clearance from the Kerala State Electricity Regulatory Commission. The company can approach the authorities only after obtaining the views of the commission on power tariff, company officials said.

The Kochi Corporation has offered to provide ₹3 per unit of power the State government buys from the plant. However, the tariff of power needs to be fixed by the regulatory commission, said V.K. Minimol, chairperson of the health standing committee of the corporation.

On holding a public hearing for the project, company officials said a platform had been provided to the public to air their views last year.
