Builder of world's longest Metro line among suitors for Ahmedabad project.
Systra SA, the French firm that credits itself for having contributed to the development of 50 per cent of world's Metrorail projects, and have broken a number of records like building the world's longest, driverless metro line in Dubai, is one of the 17 national and international firms that have bid as a general engineering consultant (GEC) for the first phase of Rs. 10,700 crore Ahmedabad Metro Rail Project.
Systra SA is lead member of the one of the four international consortiums - consisting of a total of 17 companies - that have bid for the project.
The other members in this consortium headed by Systra are Japan's Oriental Consultants Global Co. Ltd, Hongkong's AECOM Asia Co. Ltd. and RITES Ltd. (a Government of India enterprise).
'In response to our tender for appointing GEC for the metro rail project, we have received bids from four international consortiums. We are currently scrutinizing them,' a senior official associated with the Ahmedabad Metro project told The Indian Express on conditions of anonymity.
The GEC or the general engineering consultant will be the key advisor for the project. One of the selected consortiums is expected to replace DMRC (Delhi Metro Rail Corporation) who was appointed as an interim consultant in September 2014. The selected GEC will be main advisor for the entire project, i.e from designing to commissioning,' the official added.
