Civic body to set up multispecialty hospital.

In order to provide healthcare in the newly added areas of the city, the Chennai Corporation will set up a multispecialty hospital, as well as a primary health centre (PHC) at Sholinganallur.

According to Corporation sources, the civic body plans to set up a 100-bed facility at Sholinganallur.

'We have identified the land to construct the hospital, which will also have a primary health centre and be accessible for people living in those areas,' a civic body official said.

The budget estimate for the project is Rs. 4 crore.

The intention is to provide a hospital that can be easily accessed by residents, especially along the ever-growing Old Mahabalipuram Road, Corporation sources said.

'We are planning to set up Corporation-run hospitals in all the expanded areas of the city, and Sholinganallur is the first step. We are also in the process of identifying land in other expanded areas right now,' the official said.

Corporation officials added that if land was identified, the civic body would set up additional PHCs and 100-bed facilities in all the zones of the city soon.
