Darshan Hiranandani's Company Unveils ₹500 Crore Data Centre in Gujarat

Yotta Data Services, promoted by Darshan Hiranandani, has officially commissioned a Rs 500 crore data centre in GIFT City. Over the last five years, the company has invested the same amount to develop the facility, equipped with a 2 MW power capacity, according to an official statement. The announcement was made at the tenth edition of the Vibrant Gujarat Global Summit 2024.

A senior official from Nvidia, the global computing giant and Yotta's venture partner, revealed at the summit that the "artificial intelligence data centre" is scheduled to be operational before March this year. The G1 data centre will provide colocation, cloud, managed IT, and cybersecurity services, catering to a variety of use cases such as AI models and enterprise applications.

This marks Yotta's fifth facility in the country, following similar investments in states like Maharashtra. The data centre encompasses 350 racks and is positioned as a significant addition to the technological infrastructure landscape in Gujarat.

Darshan Hiranandani, co-founder, and Chairman of Yotta Data Services, expressed pride in supporting the vision of the Gujarat government, highlighting the state's role in providing a sustainable platform for global businesses, particularly with the establishment of the IFSC zone.

The newly commissioned data centre is designed to function as a potential data embassy, ensuring that the stored data is subject to the laws and regulations of the home country, allowing clients to maintain sovereignty over their data even when stored in India, as per the statement.

Speaking earlier at the Vibrant Gujarat Global Summit, Shankar Trivedi, a senior vice president at Nvidia Global Field Operations, disclosed that the American company is collaborating with Tata Group and Reliance Industries to establish data centres. Trivedi emphasized the necessity of scalable data centres for sovereign generative AI and highlighted the far-reaching impact of generative AI on various aspects of life in the future.
