Elgi’s New Automated Global Fulfilment Centre to Begin Operations in September.

Coimbatore-based global air compressor manufacturer Elgi Equipments is set to operationalise a new global fulfilment centre by mid-September, as the company steps up investments in automation and consolidates its manufacturing operations in the city.

The nearly 3-lakh-sq-ft facility, located near Elgi’s Air Centre Plant (ACP) on the outskirts of Coimbatore, will cater to the company’s global customers. It will handle both manufactured and bought-out parts required for breakdown maintenance and consumable requirements.

Despite its large scale, the facility is expected to operate with a workforce of only around 14 employees, underscoring the high degree of automation planned for the centre.

“It is a fully automated order fulfilment warehouse for the whole world,” Dr. Jairam Varadaraj, Managing Director, Elgi Equipments, told businessline on Monday.

The new centre is part of Elgi’s broader plan to consolidate its production facilities into a single campus in Coimbatore. The company is progressively investing in the campus as it seeks to streamline manufacturing and fulfilment operations.

“We are in the process of consolidating our production facilities into a single campus in Coimbatore, and we are progressively investing into that particular campus,” Varadaraj said.
