EssilorLuxottica, a global leader in ophthalmic lenses, frames, and sunglasses, is actively considering an expansion of its manufacturing footprint in India, with a particular focus on the production of basic lens castings, as revealed by a senior executive from the company.
Presently, the company is engaged in the coating of RX lenses, commonly known as "prescription sunglasses," within India. EssilorLuxottica has a robust presence in the country, managing various brands such as Crizal, Eyezen, Stellest, Ray-Ban, Oakley, Kodak Lens, Nikon, Armani Exchange, Vogue Eyewear, Burberry, Chanel, Coach, Miu Miu, and more.
Narasimhan Narayanan, President of EssilorLuxottica South Asia, shared insights in an interview with BusinessLine, stating, "I am in constant touch with the group leadership — trying to look at India as a destination for basic manufacturing because of initiatives such as 'Make in India.' In fact, our CEO was talking about, at some point, manufacturing in India."
The company's exploration of expanding its manufacturing operations in India aligns with the national initiative "Make in India," emphasizing indigenous production. This potential expansion indicates EssilorLuxottica's strategic interest in leveraging the conducive manufacturing environment in India for enhancing its production capabilities.
